The Menzingers at Fest 10 - Mystery Band set

Fact: The Menzingers are one of the best bands playing music right now
They seem to be constantly touring these days so if you somehow haven’t seen them live fix that immediately, you won’t regret it.

Sadly the last 2 songs from this set got wiped in a weird camera/flash memory over buffering error, sorry.
just for fun I’ll start a string of philly area band uploads with Captain We’re Sinking and Algernon Cadwallder being the next posts.

Reverse The Curse - “Emitter” at Fest 10

Reverse The Curse is one of the best bands no one seems to be talking about, you should buy their new record “Hither & Yon” and prepare to wonder why you waited so long to listen to them.

This is the last song from their new record “The Lack Long After”, the entire LP is nothing short of amazing from start to finish, it’s out on Topshelf Records which if you haven’t heard of them before you should check out all their bands.

Pianos Become the Teeth - “I’ll Get By”

I used to listen to my life,
I was so put together,
I chose what I wanted to be in that age of chasing sand,
the age of believing in everything,
but I couldn’t save you,
I couldn’t save what was taken away
and I’m still singing, and you still can’t stay.
You “loved life,” and those words have lasted,
I just wish I would have had ears for more than what you said
because I still feel the lack long after.
Such a light body, such a quiet gait leaving behind the weight of the world,
I’ll always think it was too early to lose your shine,
I guess the means that ends us means nothing,
I just hope it’s the peace we all need.
Because I could love and drown in your God damned smile lines,
but I think I Burnt up watching you rallying to stay alive,
and I guess that’s fine.
It seems we all get sick,
we all die in some no name hospital with the same colored walls,
and I guess that’s fine,
but I want to swallow, I want to stomach, I want to live.
It’s been a rough while and some days are worse than others,
there’s no proper way to feel, no mirth, no levity, no amazing grace,
just a flame on a lake floating away,
I cant let you lay,
I want you to know, I’m learning patience against my will,
I want you to know I’ll get by, always barely scraping
with just a hunger, with just a heart apart,
It’s a hell of a thing

I’m pretty jaded when it comes to “hardcore” bands as most just don’t offer anything new for me and I get bored really easily.  Convinced that it would be awhile before someone topped Verse’ “Aggression” I pushed off listening to the TA/LD split that a friend had sent me until this summer when I finally caved and then immediately regretted waiting so long to listen to it.  I spent the next weeks rambling to anyone who would listen about how amazing La Dispute was, describing it as if Thursday went heavier after “Full Collapse” came out.

I added them to my ‘must film’ list the second I saw they were playing Fest 9 (and after Robert told me they played his house a couple months before and I was dumb for not seeing them then).  Their set was everything I wanted it to be and more as they opened up with my personal favorite “New Storms for Old Lovers”

Check out their website for updates on all their 2011 adventures and especially look out for their upcoming split with Koji.

I guess YouTube decided to grant me one of the accounts where I don’t have a time restriction on uploads anymore, which is awesome because then I can just upload full sets as one video, which means less exports from final cut and more videos on the internet faster!

Also I’ve had a couple people mention to me that Vimeo doesn’t work that well for them so I’ll have the embed be youtube now with a link to vimeo.  For those who don’t realize YouTube’s quality settings also affects sound quality, so the 720p version is going to sound alot nicer then the 360p one.  anyways…….

this was easily one of the best sets I saw all Fest,  I had a couple of friends ask me to film their set and I really wanted to see La Dispute so figured I would get to the atlantic early to get my favorite spot to shoot from.  After they played I knew what I just watched was something I would never forget.  You need to see this band live and buy their records.  True Story

and now begins the Fest 9 video upload process, it’s always slow and drawn out but in the end you get some eye candy so all is well.  I can’t think of a better way to start this off then by one of the bigger surprises for me at Fest.  I headed over to the Atlantic early on Saturday making sure I had a good spot to film La Dispute, Caitlin had told me multiple times that if I miss Touché Amoré I was dumb, since she is my best friend I listened and was not disappointed in the least bit.  I found myself lost in how incredible of a live show they were able to put on, it was like the first time I had pumpkin pie ice cream, you just know you are witnessing something special.

After Touché Amoré played La Dispute quickly took the stage and continued with the same intensity and presence that TA had started up at The Atlantic, definitely not a bad way to start off the 2nd day of The Fest.

I’ll eventually get up the full video from both their sets but for now I figured I would just upload Touché Amoré and La Dispute playing their split 7” entitled “Searching For A Pulse/The Worth Of The World” which was released on No Sleep Records. The odds of getting to see it preformed like this again with both vocalists are probably smaller then I would like to think about so considering this was the first time I had seen either band live, this was pretty awesome.

I’ll be posting a different video every day this weekend, starting off with the newest band you need to start listening to!

as if Gainesville didn’t already have enough great local bands, Senders comes in and blows them all away with their sweet sweet sounds of post-hardcore-emoish melody’s. They sound like your favorite band that no one liked back in 1995. or like Strikeforce Diablo went on a Hum binge and made a record, it’s good that’s all you need to know.  If you live on the east coast make sure to catch them as they head out on another tour starting at Rad Fest

Thanks to Chip for holding the camera for the first 30 seconds or so, The Atlantic and Matt from Sound Study Recoridngs, and Kiiks for drinking more whiskey than he should have.

Songs in the Video:

  • Near Freeport
  • So Dramatic
  • Electric Blanket
  • Cuffed
  • Mind
  • Every Last Detail
